Stroke Unit and Local Beds

Peak View Ward has 20 in-patient beds consisting of 6 beds for community patients for a variety of conditions,  and the 14 bed Specialist Stroke Rehabilitation Unit providing a service to stroke patients living in Gloucestershire. All are served by a multi-disciplinary team  either enabling patients to achieve their rehabilitation goals or providing care to those not requiring specialist medical care at the Acute Hospital Trust but need more support than can be provided at home. Patients benefit from the excellent care, positive approach to rehabilitation and the beautiful surroundings of the hospital.

Minor Injuries and Illnesses Unit

The Minor Injuries and Illnesses Unit (MIIU) has a telephone triage system (please check the Vale Community Hospital website) for details of the help available. People are encouraged to check before leaving home to obtain an appointment time and check the Unit is open as on occasion it has to close early. Opening times are 8 am – 8 pm with the final appointment time at 7 pm and final walk-in time 7.30 pm. Please phone 0300 421 7777

You must phone 999 in an emergency i.e. chest pains or anything you think might be serious.

 Allotments

The allotment garden was initiated a few years ago by one of the local doctors and a committee was set up to run it.   It was initially thought to run a few beds for patients who had problems which would be helped by gentle gardening in a slightly raised bed.  It proved so popular it now covers the whole of the grass at the front of the hospital and a percentage are hired out to local residents.  It has been such a success that some other hospitals, which have suitable land, have followed suit.   We provided some of the initial funding to set up the scheme, and still donate on occasion for the hospital gardening beds.

Both the allotments and Dementia Garden were set up by Down to Earth and are now managed by volunteers from the same company.

Dementia Garden

The Dementia Garden is the most recent initiative agreed by the hospital.  It is much smaller than the allotment area, and is used for dementia patients to have a quiet area where they can have somewhere to do a bit of gardening and enjoy sitting in a quiet tranquil area.  We provided some initial funding for this wonderful idea as well.
